Little Arthur Duncan -- Live In Chicago! -- Reviews:
"A great one to cap things: Live in Chicago! (Random Chance 3) by Little Arthur Duncan. These nine tracks were recorded in Chicago at Famous Dave's capturing this feisty 66-year old at his down-home best." -- Ed Ivey, Blues Review Magazine "...I'd seen Duncan live, and "Singin'" [his previous studio release] left me wondering why I was so excited. I guess the solution was to record him live, which is exactly the case with "Live In Chicago". The other album presented Duncan as a fairly docile Jimmy Reed imitator; the new disc reveals Duncan to be the hellafied, well-rounded bluesman he really is. This plays well from start to finish." -- James Porter, NewCity Magazine "Recorded in the summer of '99, the concert disc is ample evidence that Duncan hasn't lost a step as a live performer: On a loping cover of Eugene Church doo-wop number, "Pretty Girls Everywhere," his harmonica lines quicer and dip as if he'd gone weak in the knees... And his salaciously funky take on Slim Harpo's "I'm a King Bee" would make a fine soundtrack for a 3 AM rendezvous at a bayou whorehouse." -- David Whiteis, Chicago Reader Hear Samples at Random Chance Records |

Easy Baby -- If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another -- Reviews:
"If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another brings this master back into the studio for some of the most enjoyable traditional blues in recent years... His harp playing is fine... Easy Baby's chromatic word also helps stamp this release "essential" for harmonica fans... If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another will excite anyone who loves understatement and ensemble blues playing." -- Tom Hyslop, Blues Revue "His full-bodied vocal attack, meanwhile, drips with eros. He delivers Good Morning Little Schoolgirl with a libidnous rasp; on his theme Call Me Easy Baby, his scream tightens into a choked gargle then desolves into a tremulous sigh while his harp solo -- a series of polyphonic shrieks, whoops, and squalls -- answers like a choir of fallen angels in the throes of ecstasy. ...this disc provides an exquisite snapshot of this veteran blues journeyman at the height of his latter-day powers." -- David Whiteis, Living Blues "It's good stuff." -- Tom Whitmore, Buddy Guy's Legends Bluesletter Hear Samples at CD Baby |

Various Artists -- Harmonica Blues Orgy -- Reviews:
"...this brotherhood of under-recorded musicians can still throw a pretty good party." -- Justin O'Brien, Living Blues "It's unfortunate that items like this don't show up more often. Take four frontmen who can blow serious blues harp, stake them with potent bands, roll the tape, and let the chips fall where they may. Random Chance Records out of New York did exactly that with this gathering, and fortunately, the chips landed back on the card table, so perhaps we can hope for more efforts such as this in the future.... It's a true pleasure to review discs of this sort. It's blues the way blues was meant to be played, and heard, something far too many record producers seem to forget these days. While "Blues Harmonica Orgy" might have its few warts, they add to the natural quality of what's here instead of subtracting from the overall outcome." -- Craig Ruskey, Blues On Stage Hear Samples at Random Chance Records |
